Ocean’s line “the start of nothing” is sung numerous times throughout the song and references back to how the couple was hopeless from the start and eventually separated in the end anyways. The song title “Ivy” may be in reference to how dangerous and unhealthy ivy can be for trees, relating it back to how unhealthy the relationship became. The melancholic production reflects on a failing relationship and how both people are growing apart. Ivy was one of the first songs on this album that I had heard. This week’s post will cover three songs: Ivy, Nights, and Self Control. The album centers around themes of family, drugs, depression, self-love and hate, falling in and out of love, and relationships. As well as, “the themes of duality between masculinity and femininity in his life with “blond” being the masculine form of the word, and “blonde” being the feminine” (Genius). Fans believed that the difference in the two references Ocean’s different romantic and sexual experiences with both men and women. The album art presents the album title as “Blond” while the album listing is “Blonde”. The title of the album has sparked much conversation and speculation.

Little did I know that when my friend and I first heard Novacane and Lost, we were personally discoverin g one of the most underrated and talented artists.īlonde by Frank Ocean is an album that truly holds a special place in my heart.
